Trip report from Wedge/ Lancelin by Chris

I was a little late (sorry to every one) 9.00 to 9.15 went to 9.20 because of our young bloke but I wasn't the latest was I Peter. We started with a very black wet drive up north. When we got to Lancelin, after I dropped Marni and Matthew off at granddads house it was off the the dunes. After we grouped up again we headed off to the track to wedge. It was very wet in the morning then fined up for lunch, to only piss down while we where eating. Some of the guys went home because of this (and a 3 o'clock time limit) then the rest of us that where left started playing. It fined up again and we found some really good challengers in the back dunes

Welcome

All are welcome and itinerary will be placed up after if there is interest.
New old and experienced people welcome

Description is trail driving on and around dunes with the option to go on the boggy beach, some tracks become narrow and would advise people with shiny soft roaders to leave their rigs at home.

Meeting time: Meet at the respectable 10.00am for a 10.30am departure, by the time we reach the turn off to Wilbinga and air down we should be hitting the tracks by 11.00am

What To Bring: bring a UHF radio, also if you plan on hitting the beach your vehicle must have front and rear recovery points. obviously we will be airing down so bring a compressor, enough water to last you the day, sun cream, hat, swimming togs if your keen, fishing gear and the usual 4by stuff u have like shovels etc.

Whats on in Racing

Another Congratulations - shows your what a small club can do

Well what can I say the other week it was a congratulations to Chris & Marni
Hill on winning at Harvey.
This week it is congratulations to Peter Kozak & Paul Coci, they won their
race again at Millicent in SA over the weekend. First in class 5, the only
class 5 to finish but they came last car to finsih but that doesn't matter
as they still won which keeps them in the running still to become
Australia's National champion in their class.  One more race to go in
October for them in Goondawindi - Queensland.

To both our clubs winners a job well done congratulations once again.

It shows you that you do not have to big a big club to win and do not have
to have a lot of members the members we have do well in all events that they
compete.  Keep it up every one.

On another note I wish to arrange another social function by going to ten
pin bowling in Warwick soon, please let me know if you are interested.

<">Off to QLD with 572

Pete and Paul are off to QLD after the run they had at Millicent.
Paul was saying it was a bit of a dry weekend for them at the Pines Enduro at Millicent, South Australia. They put their heads down and went racing. I'm sure that will change at Goondiwindi, because a little birdy told me Kimbo was going with them. All I can say to that is lookout Queenslanders the boys are coming.... Make sure you have heaps of beer.

Confessions of a first time racer

8 am and Chris says I would like you to be my navigator at Harvey tonight. OK I said with some trepidation. We were after all going to be racing the Commodore (standard everything) on an off road track designed for cars with some suspension modifications. With Chris off to fix the starter motor that decided it wouldn’t work at midnight on Friday night, I was off to Go Gear for a race suit (arguable the most expensive single item of clothing I now own) and frantically phoning my sister to baby-sit Matthew.

All running around complete we were ready to load the race car when another minor setback (front RH strut falling out) delayed us but onward and upward we fixed, loaded and set off for the track that I had been to many many times before but never as a competitor. Arriving just a bit behind schedule we were allowed to compete (a term I use loosely, but I want to send big thanks to the organisers and clerk of course for encouraging us to keep fixing and get there) and before long we were lined up for prologue asking the guys on the gate to get the shopping out of the boot for us. OK we were not quick but we looked snazzy with the red, white & black paint work.

Race one and we were where we expected at the back of field. We placed our Big Mac order at the gate as we lined up for the first start. Track sure looks and feels different from inside the car and I could certainly tell why there were a couple of spectacular rolls as you feel the lift when the car hits the bumps and jumps. I managed to not scream but an instinctive look out escaped when the car was pointing a tractor tyre (on my side of the car) There is the chequered flag First heat over.

No time to waste as they are ready to start Round two as we pull in from round one. This time we were lined up beside another car. The competitor in Chris took over (I think he forgot we were in the commodore when we hit the first series of jumps with a very loud bang on landing) Things are starting to rattle and the other car is chucking rocks at me but the adrenaline has kicked in. The lead changes a couple of times but with lights pointing to the ground now it is a bit hard to see out the back.

Bit of a breather and I have discovered the down side of being a female wearing a race suit. Guess I can hang on a bit longer. Don’t want to miss the start of round Three. We started this heat on our own but a roll over (not us fortunately) meant a restart and again we were lined up for a side by side start. More jostling to the corner and definitely more rattles in the car but a big pot hole in pit corner didn’t help the lighting situation out the back of the track. One jump too many and the poor commodore has zero suspension left but I certainly know every square inch of the seat and belts as they are imprinted on me. That is it for the commodore, we are now relegated to be spectators at the top of the hill for the rest of the night, but the stock standard Holden had managed a qualifying finish. Trophy presentation and we were Third in Class. I was quite happy the be a finisher first time out but to get a place was even better.

We had a lot of fun and I enjoyed the experience immensely and no I didn’t sleep in my race suit, but I am certainly going to get my money's worth. Chris my car needs to be ready for Northam on the 22 July and this time I'm driving !!!!!!

Marni Hill
